Pete Geiger and his award winning license plate guitar design for Rascal Flatts
Pete Geiger is an award-winning license plate artist who handcrafts guitar art in his North Carolina workshop.
Each piece is unique, and features a patchwork of different states and sayings in a wide variety of guitar styles, from electric to acoustic, from basses to banjos.
Some people buy the guitars featuring Pete's original designs from his website. Others work closely with Pete to craft one-of-a-kind guitars that represent their life story. Those highly personal pieces of art may be the most memorable.
"People say, 'I live in Texas and I'm moving to Louisiana. Can you make me a guitar featuring these states?'" he explains. Sometimes, clients use their own plates. If not, Pete pulls from his large collection of vintage plates. He incorporates meaningful dates, like anniversaries, or birthdays, as well as sayings and nicknames.
Pete has been a guitar aficionado since growing up in New York. It was during one of his home jam sessions that his eyes fell on his own old plates hanging on the wall. He was quickly inspired. Today, Pete listens to licks of country and rock music as he snips, grinds and smooths the metal guitars' edges.

His artwork can be seen at select galleries and juried art shows across the country. He's created personalized pieces of guitar art for country music legends like Brad Paisley and Rascal Flatts, which featured his winning design on a Taylor guitar they used on their Changed 2012 concert tour. He's done commissioned pieces of work for several U.S. companies as well.
